Scott Miller brings experience building and growing a MEMS engineering team from a university startup to a high-volume manufacturing company. He started working in MEMS at Cornell University in 1992 for Noel MacDonald. After achieving his PhD in 1997, he joined Kionix, a MEMS sensor company that started from the research developed in his graduate research group at Cornell University. Initially a Senior Engineer, he worked on high density memory using arrays of MEMS needles to read bits. He was part of the design team that created the original Calient Technologies mirror. After Calient acquired Kionix in 2000, he continued to work on the MEMS mirror arrays. When a new Kionix was spun out to work on inertial sensors in 2001, Scott left Calient Optical Components to manage the MEMS design team for Kionix. As this new Kionix grew, Scott continued to grow by becoming the Director of Accelerometer Products and then the Director of Applications Engineering. In late 2009, Rohm, a Japanese semiconductor company, acquired Kionix. Scott was subsequently promoted to Vice President of Engineering in early 2010, overseeing the product engineering, applications engineering, customer technical support, and test engineering groups at Kionix. He brought MEMS accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers from the design stage to high volume production. In 2016, Scott also became Kionix's Chief Technology Officer. Since leaving Kionix in 2019, he has spent time as a VP of Engineering at a stealth startup and the MEMS CTO at Calient Technologies. He is the inventor on eleven U.S. Patents and several more that are pending. Scott earned his BS in Physics from Purdue University and his MS and PhD in Applied Physics from Cornell University.
